Opt-in exemption: Last-minute amendments

Last-minute amendments to the Future of Financial Advice Bills will give the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) the ability to exempt financial advisers from the opt-in obligation if they are satisfied that the financial adviser is signed up to a professional code that removes the need for opt-in.

Tax concession entities: Special conditions

The Assistant Treasurer, the Hon. David Bradbury MP, has released revised draft legislation for restating and standardising the special conditions for tax concession entities.

FRC survey on financial literacy

The Financial Reporting Council (FRC), which oversees the effectiveness of the financial reporting framework in Australia, is conducting a five-minute online survey of key stakeholders to gauge their views about the level of financial literacy of directors in Australia and to ask for their ideas on what, if anything, should be done to improve it. The FRC is particularly interested in hearing from directors and accounting, auditing and other financial professionals.

MEA state winner

CPA Australia has won the Queensland Association or Government meeting of the year at the Meeting and Events Australia (MEA) Awards for CPA Congress 2010 and Virtual Congress. The National Award will be announced on Tuesday 24 April.

Final FPS exams: May and November

In February this year a new pathway to attain the CPA Australia Financial Planning Specialisation was announced. the pathway under the existing points system will close on 30 June 2013.

FoFA implementation extended

The Australian Government has announced that the Future of Financial Advice (FoFA) reforms will commence from 1 July 2012, but the application of the provisions will be voluntary until 1 July 2013. Mandatory application will start from 1 July 2013.

If so, you are reminded of your obligations under APES 310 Dealing with Client Monies to have your trust account and records audited within three months or such other date as determined by state or territory legislation.
