In order for us to determine your eligibility for membership, you need to submit an application for assessment
To be eligible for Associate membership, applicants must, successfully cover the core knowledge. The core knowledge can be obtained through our eight foundation level exams:
- IT and Business Processes
- Economics and Markets
- Foundations of Accounting
- Fundamentals of Business Law
- Business Finance
- Financial Accounting and Reporting
- Management Accounting
- Accounting Concepts and Principles
Once applicants have demonstrated completion of the foundation level core knowledge requirements they can join CPA Australia as an Associate member and commence the CPA Program - professional level. To be eligible for CPA status, applicants must meet all the requirements below:
- hold a qualification that is assessed as comparable to at least an Australian bachelor degree
- demonstrate completion of CPA Australia’s foundation level knowledge
- successfully complete CPA Australia’s professional level examinations
- successfully complete the practical experience requirement - comprising 36 months supervised, professional work experience and covering technical accounting skills, personal effectiveness skills, business skills and leadership skills.

Exemptions
Applicants may be granted exemptions from the foundation level and the professional level electives if they can demonstrate that they have completed studies of equivalent content and depth. These studies may be:
- tertiary degree studies (in the case of the professional level electives, the study must be undertaken at postgraduate level)
- professional qualifications
An assessment outcome will inform applicants if they are eligible for exemptions, we cannot advise of possible exemptions by telephone or email.
